Headaches

What puts the Ache in Headache?

Headaches can vary in severity from an intermittent mildly annoying irritation to a life stopping constant sharp pain in the head.  Headaches do not restrict themselves to just adults, you can not be too young to get a headache.

The reason that chiropractic has been a revelation to millions of headache sufferers may well be that most headache sufferers appear to have tiny distortions or misalignments in the spine.  These misalignments put pressure on the bodies nervous system.  your chiropractor will give you a safe, gentle spinal adjustment to correct the misalignment to remove the nerve pressure and spinal distortions.

The majority of headache sufferers around the world may have taken pain killing tablets or some other drug which only treat the symptom.  The drugs do not necessarily get to the real reason the problem arose in the first place, in some way or other these drugs inhibit or stop the body’s own natural defence mechanism, the perception or feeling of pain.

A team of surgeons may have found one of the answers as to why chiropractic works so well.  they discovered a small neck muscle that connects to brain membranes.  when the neck is out of alignment, this muscle can actually pull on the brain!  As the lead surgeon writes: “An increasing body of literature relates headaches to pathology affecting the cervical spine and number of clinical trials have demonstrated that chiropractic is valuable for managing headache” (1)

Evander Holyfield

World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, echoes the attitude of many world-famous athletes, I found that going to a Chiropractor helps my performance. Once I drove 20 miles to see a Chiropractor before a fight. I have to have my adjustment before I go into the ring.

Lance Armstrong

Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has been receiving chiropractic care since January of 1999, helping him to keep his body together for the harsh demands of the Tour de France. After last year’s Tour de France, Lance said that he could not have won without his chiropractor’s help.

Dan O’Brien

Gold Medal Decathlete/World Champion

You obviously can’t compete at your fullest if you’re not in alignment. And your body can’t heal if your back is not in alignment. It was the holistic idea that I liked about chiropractic and that is what track and field is about. Every track and field athlete that I have ever met has seen a chiropractor at one time or another. In track and field, it is absolutely essential. Chiropractic care is one of the things I think that no one has denied or refuted.

Tiger Woods

Being a chiropractic patient has really helped me immensely… Lifting weights and seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis has made me a better golfer. I’ve been going to Chiropractors for as long as I can remember. It’s as important to my training as practicing my swing.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

I am very fortunate to have, so-to-speak, my in-house chiropractor, Dr. Franco Colombu, as my own personal chiropractor. So, I visit Franco regularly, and he comes over to my house. He adjusts my wife, my kids, me, everybody gets an adjustment. And we feel always great when Franco leaves. Even when I have athletic injuries he’s always there for me, and helps me. So it’s really terrific, and I know that first hand. That’s why I always will be traveling around, all over the world, talking highly about the profession of chiropractic. You chiropractic doctors are really miracle workers, and that’s why it’s really great to have you here, part of the Arnold Classic. Because, like I said, the Arnold Classic and Fitness Weekend are about health and about fitness and preventive care.

Expert Chiropractic Treatment in the Northwest | Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain

Between 70% - 85% of us get back pain at some time in our lives.

Back pain is very, very common. About 85% of the population will experience disabling low back pain at least once during their lives!. Almost half of all adults in Britain get back pain that lasts at least a day each year.
Every year about 5 million people see their GP because of back pain. Back pain is not just restricted to adults for example a recent survey of 500 school children aged between 10 and 16 years in the North-West of England found that 13% of children experienced recurrent low back pain.

The Medical Approach to Back Pain

About 5 million a year visit their GP because of Back Pain. The standard medical approach to back pain varies depending on the severity of the Condition. Muscle relaxers, painkillers, rest and physical therapy such as traction and ultrasound. these approaches are often found wanting however.(1) 30% of all GP consultations are about musculoskeletal complaints.(2) Even bed rest has been found ineffective for a serious form of back and leg pain called sciatica (2). The medical approach is at times necessary - even back surgery has a place. The department of health has issued its recommendations for the treatment of back pain in the musculoskeletal services framework.  This framework suggests referral of patients to chiropractors.

Our Approach

Chiropractors have helped millions of people with low back problems, often saving them from pain, disability, drugs and surgery.  Chiropractic care is more effective than hospital outpatient treatment for back pain.
Spinal manipulation followed by exercise is effective in terms of costs and effectiveness when compared with ‘best care’ in General Practice.

We at Warrington Chiropractic Centre are able to offer you piece of mind with our safe and effective care. We can offer an assessment, diagnosis, and management of rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders using an evidence based package of care involving advice support and exercise.  In addition we are also able to offer the most scientifically researched chiropractic technique available.

Expert Chiropractic Treatment in the Northwest | What it is we offer
Optimumspine.com logo

What it is we offer

We provide care and support by reducing pain and disability and by restoring normal function to people with neuro-musculoskeletal disorders we promote health and wellbeing by offering three types of care plans: -

Intensive Care –
Our intensive care plan is generally our first step for any patient in their journey into chiropractic. It is sometimes referred to as a pain relief programme and can vary according to specific cases.  The objective of this care programme is to reduce pain and improve mobility.

Reconstructive Care –
Like orthodontics for teeth is designed to help restore proper position and motion of spinal bones.  Our reconstructive or rehabilitation care plan follows our intensive care plan and is for patients not wanting to just relieve the symptoms but wanting to correct the underlying problem. The purpose of our Rehabilitation is to improve spines and posture to as near normal as possible to improve overall function and health.

our uniqueness explained

Wellness Care –
Are for members that want to maintain their improvements.  Our patients on wellness care have learned that regular check ups can eliminate problems before they arise and infact may build upon results already attained.  You could liken it to going for regular check ups with your dentist to avoid tooth decay.

That’s what we offer… but How Can We Help You?

Expert Chiropractic Treatment in the Northwest | Can We Help You?
Optimumspine.com logo

Can We Help You?

People from all walks of life, of all ages groups come to us for all sorts of different reasons.  We consider it our job:-
1) To find out or to detect where the concern/s is/are coming from.
2) To correct the cause of the problem to restore health and not just to relieve the symptom .
3) To preserve the correction and to offer advice in ways to perhaps minimise it’s recurrence.

People say “You only live once,” and “Health is very important.” We don’t gamble with your health by trying to second guess your health condition.

How do we ascertain whether we can help you?

Well a thorough evaluation of your health condition will take place prior to any potential treatment being carried out.

External physical, neurological, and orthopaedic tests will be conducted.  During the consultation the chiropractor may want to take x-rays.  X-rays can be used to check for problems that may not be apparent from an external examination alone, such as vertebral alignment, disc degeneration, proper curvature, scoliosis, and other serious pathology.  This type of thorough examination may highlight any other undiagnosed concerns which may restrict you being a suitable chiropractic patient.

Not all chiropractors are qualified to take x-rays or radiographs, some do not possess an x-ray machine.  As a result are unable to quickly take advantage of the vast amounts of information that can be obtained from them.  All chiropractors at Warrington chiropractic centre are fully qualified in utilising the in house x-ray unit.

A number of patients coming to see us are in high degrees of discomfort and pain, the in house x-ray unit cuts down on NHS waiting times and saves further discomfort and pain by waiting for a hospital appointment.

The consultation process:-

1) Allows us to locate just where your concern is originating.
2) Confirms whether your concern is a chiropractic related problem
3) Ascertains whether you would be a suitable chiropractic patient or not.

Expert Chiropractic Treatment in the Northwest | What is “Health”?
Optimumspine.com logo

What is “Health”?

Let food by thy medicine and let thy medicine be food!

The word ‘health’ was derived from the old English word ‘hoelth’, which meant a state of being sound, and was generally used to infer a soundness of the body. Prior to the period of the somewhat enigmatic physician known as Hippocrates (c 460-377 BCE, or more appropriately, from around 5 BCE), health was perceived as a divine gift. Hippocrates was credited with pioneering the move away from divine notions of health, and using observation as a basis for acquiring health knowledge. He was credited with encouraging a focus on environmental sanitation, personal hygiene and, in particular, balanced diets – “let food be thy medicine; and let thy medicine be food”.

Nowadays though the most commonly quoted definition of health is that formalised by the World Health Organization (WHO) over half a century ago;

“A complete state of physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” (Infirmity meaning weakness).

We interpret the above statement that describes health to be when your body is physically, mentally, and emotionally sound and just because your body is not showing any signs of disease or infirmity or you are not feeling ill, it doesnt necessarily mean you are healthy.

Some people...and you may be one reading this right now, judge how you are feeling as an indication to your own health.  If you are..!  Don’t worry .....You’re not alone!

Layout and structure

We have used a clear layout and structural markup for elements including headings, paragraphs and lists. Our web pages can also be read when style sheets are turned off.

Expert Chiropractic Treatment in the Northwest | What Makes us Unique
Optimumspine.com logo

What Makes us Unique

There are approximately only 2-3 practices out of over 2000 chiropractors in the UK that are certified and hold a full complement of machines to fully utilise the amazing results obtainable using this technique.

CBP® is the most published named chiropractic technique within the Index Medicus in the history of Chiropractic.

CBP® has more published papers in peer-reviewed indexed journals, medical and orthopedic scientific journals than all other techniques combined.

Clinical Biomechanics of Posture, a.k.a. CBP® (http://www.idealspine.com).
Entails using exercise, adjusting and postural traction to correct spine and posture deviations back towards normal alignment. By correcting misalignments, more permanent corrections of your ailments can be achieved. In fact, there have been several clinical trials as well as case reports recently published documenting dramatic improvements in a variety of diseases and conditions by remolding the spine/posture back towards the normal. 1-13

CBP® is a method of spinal analysis and treatment developed by Donald D. Harrison, M.S., D.C., M.S.E., Ph.D., and Glenn Harrison, B.S., D.C. It encompasses postural and radiographic analysis and correlates the sciences of applied mathematics, physics, and biophysics to the practice and theory of chiropractic.

The CBP® technique goes beyond the resolution of symptoms to achieve a structurally normal spine. Published in the world’s top scientific and medical journals such as Spine, Journal of Spinal Disorders, Clinical Biomechanics, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The goal of CBP® technique is to restore normal human posture and spinal position. It is well known to health care practitioners that abnormal spinal posture and position has negative affects on the nervous system. It is established that the nervous system is the primary controlling factor in immunity and is responsible for all bodily functions. As a result, uncorrected asymmetries in posture adversely impact the individual’s health and well-being.

“Posture effects & moderates every physiological function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headaches, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.
Posture, normal physiology, and function are interrelated. Abnormal posture is evident in patients with chronic pain-related conditions including backache, headache, and stress-related illness.” (American Journal of Pain Management 1994; 4: 36-39)

The objective of CBP® technique is to correct these asymmetries to the greatest degree, minimizing spinal degeneration and improve neurological dysfunction and systemic health.

“Because mechanical loading of the neuro-musculo-skeletal tissues plays a vital role in influencing proper growth and repair, chiropractic rehabilitative care should focus on the normalization/minimization of aberrant stresses and strains acting on spinal tissues.

Manipulation alone cannot restore body postures or improve an altered sagittal spinal curve. Therefore, postural chiropractic adjustments, active exercises and stretches, resting spinal blocking procedures, extension traction and ergonomic education are deemed necessary for maximal spinal rehabilitation.” (Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics 1998; 21: 37-50).

Expert Chiropractic Treatment in the Northwest | What is “Chiropractic”?
Optimumspine.com logo

What is “Chiropractic”?

Chiropractic is a fast-growing independent health care profession in the United Kingdom

In the UK there are over 2,000 practicing chiropractors.  If you ask most people what is the primary concern of chiropractors they will usually answer, fixing bad backs or relieving back pain.  This idea has become popular but is not necessarily strictly correct.

The World Federation of Chiropractic defines chiropractic as “A health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal manipulation or adjustment.”

The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.
